On 9 December 2016, at the occasion of the retirement of the fourth member, a group of Dutch environmental scientists decided to form an association (Dutch: ‘vereniging’; German ‘Verein’) in order to continue their professional activity under the name ARES – Association of Retired Environmental Scientists

In March 2018 we made ARES a legal entity, and as from January 2026 ARES consists of a multi-disciplinary international team of nine retired environmental scientists
